Feeling discouraged? Mentally and physically exhausted? Like you just want to throw in the towel on your business (or on life) and give up?

Don’t. Don’t give up. Rather let me see if I can help you think of your challenges in terms of opportunities:

1.) Realize that you’ll be able to use your difficult experiences to help others. In fact, the only way we can fully understand the challenges others are facing and therefore also help them find their way through it all, is if we know those challenges first hand!

I love the way the Bible addresses this issue, “…so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” (2. Cor. 1:4)

2.) When success comes (whatever “success” means to you), the only way you’ll be able to fully appreciate it, is if you also know what it’s like on the other side of the fence.

If all we know is abundance and happiness, then abundance and happiness becomes meaningless, right? You can’t know “good” without also knowing “bad”, or “happy” without knowing “sad”…

3.) Our characters are better molded when times are hard than they are in times of prosperity. If you’re anything like me, you want to develop character so that you can truly influence the people in your life in a positive way.

You’re not here just to “take up space”, you’re here to leave your mark on the world – right? Well, in that case, there’s no getting around the trials…

Finally – and at the risk of sounding a bit cynical – let me speak strictly from a business perspective:

4.) Even with your trials you’re creating your story. Marketing is all about story-telling, and your story is what is going to help your prospects relate to you. A story without “failure” prior to “success” is not a real story that others can relate to – it’s a feel-good fantasy.

If you look at it this way, “failure” is actually good for business! It makes you real, relatable and believable in the eyes of your business contacts and future customers.

And remember, everyone loves a ‘come-back’ or a ‘rag-to-riches’ story: The fact that you were down in the dumps only makes your rise to the top – or back to the top – all that more compelling.

Hope that helped put some back in your heart! Whatever you do, never, ever, ever give up…because you were created for greatness! :)

Well, one option is to throw a pity party. You can crawl up into a corner and cry “boo-hoo, not fair!” when your upline doesn’t give you the attention you feel you deserve.

And, in fact, a lot of people do. After one too many “rejections” they give up, blaming their lack of results on their sponsor (or on the company, compensation plan, system – you name it), and move on to the next shiny object. Where, of course, the process repeats itself.

This is not the case with up-and-coming leaders. They actively go looking for solutions. They understand that their upline has a lot on their plate, too, and that ongoing one-on-one coaching wasn’t necessarily part of the deal.

They don’t have an entitlement attitude, thinking that their sponsor “owes” them something. What’s more, they understand it is to their advantage to learn to be resourceful and to leverage tools both online and offline to provide them with the information they require to succeed.

Does this involve a bit more work than it does to pick up the phone and call your upline? Sure it does. But it is a much, much better way to learn the ropes of marketing. Become INdependent, not sponsor dependent!

With this in mind, here are six different ways to get your burning questions answered when your sponsor “fails” to make themselves available to you.

1.) Google your question. Google has a quadrillion resources available for free – and it is right there at your finger tips! A lot of the time you will find online forums where people are asking – and ANSWERING – the exact question you have! I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me…!

Tip: Google your question with quotation marks (” “) to get the most relevant search results, i.e. “how do I hyper link a word” rather than how do I hyperlink a word.

2.) You can also do a search on YouTube.com by typing in your topic or question in the YouTube search bar. There, you’ll find loads of useful video tutorials uploaded by YouTube’s own users that demonstrate, step by step, how to do pretty much anything you’d ever need to know about building a home business online.

3.) Post your question on Facebook in your status update. (“Hey, FB peeps, can anyone recommend a great course on Article Marketing?”)

4.) Use the forum in BetterNetworker.com to browse topics posted by other network marketers and to post your own questions that you need help with. Before long, I bet you someone will reach out to you!

(If no one does, try posting your question again – or use one of the other five suggestions listed here to get help! You get the idea: Never sit around and wait, always be proactive, and always be taking action.)

5.) Use the live Skype support group in My Lead System PRO (MLSP). MLSP is a community made up of network marketers from across the industry, and in the MLSP Skype group you can get help from other, more experienced networkers.

(Just don’t forget to reciprocate! How about leaving the person that helped you a nice comment on their blog or Facebook wall where others can see it? That will make them look good…and feel good, too!)

6.) Utilize the connections you have established with other networkers, inside our outside of your own company.

You ARE building relationships with other network marketers, right? You ARE attending live events, exchanging business cards and connecting with other like minded individuals…?

I sure hope so! You need other people – and they need you! (So again, don’t just be a “taker”, be a giver, too!)

So there you have it. As you can see, there’s no need to despair. There’s always a way to get your questions answered. And remember, even if your upline truly is a jerk and doesn’t deserve to have a gem like you on their team, if you are destined for success, nothing and no one can stop you.

Actually, let me correct myself: No one can stop you but YOU….

Ever get the “pyramid” objection from a prospect that you talk to about your MLM?

Well, next time someone tells you you’re involved with a “pyramid scheme”, you may want to point out the following to them:

In MLM, although money “moves up” in the sense that everyone is earning on the work of the person “below” them, the investment of one’s time and energy goes at least as much “from the top down” as it does “from the bottom up”…

You earn residuals on your consultant’s work but you were the one that coached, mentored, and inspired them to make those sales in the first place! Unlike in some corporate entities out there (!), MLM is a two-way street.

And that, in my opinion, is exactly why MLM is so rewarding! You work together. You’re a team. You get results together.

When a person in your downline succeeds, it puts a big smile on your face, doesn’t it? Their hard work is finally paying off…and your hard work is paying off!

Because you’re the one who invested yourself in that person!

It’s only right then, that you should both reap financial rewards as a result!

You may remember a movie from a few years back titled “Pay It Forward”. In this film Haley Joel Osment’s character lectures the adults on the power of good deeds; on how good deeds would spread like wildfire if one person would help only 3 people who again help 3 people, who help 3…

I don’t know about you but when I see this photo from the movie, it’s like looking at the MLM business model! It looks like Haley Joel Osment is conducting a lecture on MLM!

MLM is all about paying it forward. It’s about helping people, who again help others, who help others…

What a lot of the naysayers don’t get is that you’ll never see lasting results in your business if you aren’t genuinely out to help others.

Sure, you may enjoy some short-term accolades, even financial profits, but if you think you can build a strong, loyal team of men and women that respects you, follows you and duplicates your results (your residuals depend on it) and at the same time not take a true interest in their success, you’ll be sorely disappointed.

You and I both know this. The dream stealers, of course, don’t.

So, my friend, next time you get the “pyramid objection”, you may want to tell that to your skeptical prospect!

OR…there’s always the other option: Shake the dust off your feet and move on. Go find someone who’s got the right mindset, the belief and the vision and who’s actually qualified to work with you.

As you well know, we live in a world of information overload where people are in a constant state of overwhelm, distraction, and confusion.

In fact, there’s so much information coming at us so quickly that we don’t even know where to start or how to sort between what’s worth our time and and what isn’t!

We buy courses, books and other training material in the hope that this will be “it”… But we can’t find the time to digest even a small portion of the information.

This is the case with the great majority in the Network Marketing industry right now. Most likely, it describes you as well.

I’ve talked about overwhelm in previous posts and how to tackle it. Today’s post is not on the topic of how to deal with information overload but rather on how to get your marketing message across to your prospects who are also on information overload!

Truth is, the market has become so saturated that if you don’t have a specific strategy for how to get your message across, you won’t be able to compete.

Even if you’re known for giving value and have built a great relationship with your list, you still have to give substantial thought to how you go about conveying your message to your audience. And timing truly is everything.

So all that being said, here are two different ways you can “work” your list to ensure that they take action…

PROMOTIONS:

You should regularly be running promotions using scarcity and urgency. “Special free bonus for the next 11 customers.” “Free gift for the next 48 hours only.” “If you close this browser window and come back later, this special may not be available any longer.” You get the idea.

Odd numbers, according to market research, perform best. In other words, make the bonus available for 11 or 15 or 19 customers rather than 10 or 14 or 20, and so on.

You’ve GOT to create urgency. You’ve got to make it a now-or-never type of deal. Otherwise, your prospect will put it off.

If they can postpone it, they will. If there is no compelling reason why they should act NOW, they won’t. That’s what it’s come down to. Again, because of all the other offers constantly competing for their attention.

First of all, if you haven’t already done so, you need to sign up with aweber. In aweber you can host all your auto responder messages (automated emails).

But having value driven, interesting, helpful, entertaining emails lined up in daily intervals is not enough. You also need to broadcast.

A broadcast email is simply a message that you send out to your list at a particular point in time promoting a specific offer or event (I’ll talk about ‘events’ next).

Broadcast 1-2 times a week in addition to your daily auto responder messages.

Once a week or once every 14 days, your broadcasts should promote a product or service and have a strong call to action. The rest of the time, use your broadcast to direct your subscribers to your blog posts, videos or other value driven content so as to continuously build trust and credibility.

EVENTS:

The definition of an event in this context is that your prospect has to show up at a designated place on your clock.

It could be a webinar, a conference call or perhaps a Ustream broadcast. The webinars don’t even have to be live – they can be replays set up to look like they’re live. Most of the time your attendee won’t be able to tell the difference, and even if they do, so what?

The idea behind event driven marketing is that you get your prospect to “show up” and give you their full attention. You interrupt their busy day, giving them a set time and place where they need to be if they are to get access to the valuable information or special bonus that you have promised them.

In other words, “be there or miss out”. No one likes to miss out, so if they are interested, trust me, they will make an attempt to be there!

On the webinar, when you have got your prospect’s undivided attention, and after value has been given, you give a strong call to action, again using scarcity and urgency.

“I’m only looking for 10 people to work with right now.” “Here is a special promo code which gives you a $75 discount on the start up product in the next 24 hours.”

It goes without saying that if you are going to be using scarcity and urgency, you had better tell the truth! Don’t say you are looking for 10 people and then take in 100, or you will completely lose credibility.

So there you have it – some of my tried and proven strategies for combating market saturation. Test them out in your own business, be patient, be consistent, and I’m confident that you will see results sooner than you had expected!

Setting goals is extremely important, this you already know. You’re probably already setting goals and working towards them. But are you writing down your goals and reviewing them every single day?

And are you allowing your subconscious to provide you with the plan you need to accomplish those goals? Or are you relying on logic and reasoning for the answers?

I was recently at a conference where one of the speakers talked abouot goal setting. This presenter, a self made multi-millionaire barely 30 years old, shared his own journey to success and the ups and downs he has experienced in his business since then.

“Those times,” he said, “where wealth has come effortlessly, where there has been practically no resistance, where I’ve just SOARED…those have been times where I’ve been crystal clear on my goals, down to the exact figures I was going to make in a specific time period, the number of customers I was going to aqcuire or the reps I was going to bring in.”

“But” he added. “I didn’t try to work it all out in my head how it was going to happen. I wasn’t being all analytical about it.”

“See, I believe that as human beings we already have the answers…our subconscious holds the answers. And when we find ourselves in the situation where we need the solution, the solution will present itself.”

He continued: “Whenever I’ve operated this way, I haven’t just met my goals, I’ve exceeded them…”

“But’, he said, “One thing is for certain. You have to know exactly where you are going to be in 90 days from now…6 months, 12 months… And anything that does not perfectly align itself with that vision and therefore does not belong in that future plan – any project, task or “opportunity” that calls for your attention – is brutally eliminated. Because it is nothing but a distraction.”

He added: “Success as an entrepreneur is a result of pushing through barriers, moving outside your comfort zone…doing something different so that you can achieve different results…doing that which doesn’t come naturally to you.”

He concluded: “Which is why you’ll never get to where you want to be by being who you are today.”

Hmmm, interesting isn’t it?

I don’t know about you but I’ve made it a habit to listen carefully when someone more accomplished than me gives advice!

And I’ve noticed how extremely successful people always seem to have this one thing in common: They keep a journal (or several!) where they jot down their thoughts and ideas…and, of course, their goals.

This is no coincidence. Successful individuals live their lives with determination and purpose. They have a plan. Yet – according to this speaker – when it all comes down to it, they trust their intuition.

They don’t rely only on logic and reasoning, and they don’t allow the fact that they “don’t know everything” keep them from taking action with what they DO know.

If this highly successful entrepreneur (who also happens to be a mentor of mine) is right, it means we need to come more out of our shells, be wiling to take calculated risks…and also, we need to learn to become better at trusting the process.

I don’t know what you are going to do with this information, but I can tell you that I personally – since I heard this presentation recently – have recommmited to consistent goal setting and journaling.

Will you join me in this radical pursuit of excellence?

I hope you will.

Do you know what one of the biggest differences between successful people and those that seem to always be “trying” but never accomplish much?

One of the most important differences is that whereas accomplished individuals create a plan and follow it, the “average” person lives life “by default”.

Let me elaborate by means of a real-life scenario that should be familiar to all of us. This struck me today as I was seated aboard an aircraft on my way from Houston, TX back home to L.A.

Having just attended an event in Costa Rica, I was in an even more reflective mood that usual. I looked around at the passengers, observing their activities, and I noticed that they fell into five main categories. They were either –

1) Napping,
2) Staring blankly into space,
3) Watching a movie,
4) Reading a novel, newspaper or gossip magazine…OR
5) Playing with their phones or other electronic devices.

Now please understand that I’m not here to pass judgement, merely to point out what I observed and the lesson I think it holds. There are obviously times that we all deserve to take a nap in the middle of the afternoon or relax with a good movie or an entertaining magazine!

Still, I think there’s a lot to learn about human nature from studying people in a passive situation (such as passengers aboard a plane), a situation where they don’t have to physically be anywhere, don’t have a clock to punch or a deadline to meet.

Simply put, they can’t do much else but wait.

Or CAN they?

There is one thing in life you are never ever going to get back once you lose it, and that’s TIME. Of course, once the hours and minutes are gone, you’ll never be able to retrieve them. Which is why I think we can safely say that time is our most precious commodity.

We all know this at a subconscious level. The difference is that the accomplished person, because they’ve also come to realize this at a conscious level, lives accordingly. They live deliberately…purposefully…NOT by default.

The natural thing to do – the thing that comes easy to us – is to just go with whatever we feel like at any given moment. When we’re hungry, we eat. When we’re tired, we take a nap. If we feel like watching a movie, we watch a movie…

This is all reactive. It requires no effort whatsoever. It’s passive living, and it’s how the vast, vast majority of people lead their lives.

They merely react to their circumstances.

The succesful person on the other hand, CREATES their own circumstances. He or she boards the plane with expectation of getting something accomplished: To them, a four hour flight from Houston to L.A. is the perfect opportunity to work on a project saved on their laptop or to get some new, creative ideas down on paper…

They are PROactive.

That’s the big difference between successful people and those that never seem to get anywhere in life.

Not to get all dark and gloomy here, but life is short and time is rarely on our side…we all know this.

And this is exactly why you need to have a plan. You need to know where you’re going so that you can get yourself to your desired destination during your allotted time on planet Earth.

With a good plan, faith and persistence, truly any obstacle can be overcome. What at first seemed impossible becomes not only possible but probable – because you made a conscious decision to take that vehicle off auto-pilot and grab the steering wheel with both hands.

That, while the rest of the world sits there dreaming about what could have been…

The other day, on a webinar that I did on the importance of self-branding, one of my students asked, somewhat puzzled, if their MLM company was “not enough”.

In other words, why all the bells and whistles of self-branding – can’t you just promote your MLM? It’s a great question, and I’m sure one that a lot of people are wondering about. So I want to take a minute to address this issue today.

A couple of years ago, when you could still market biz opps and “make money offers” on Google Adwords, it was a little different. Your ads were consistently placed in front of sales ready prospects who were aching to hit the ‘buy button’.

(That’s actually not much of an exaggeration. In those days we were making a lot of money very quickly on Google. I remember my monthly advertising budget was anywhere from 12 to 16K – and with that, I was very profitable!)

Googlers were typing in “buyer’s keywords” like “start online business” and “make money from home”, and voila, there was your little ad with the promise that on the other side of this click, you’ll find the solution.

Branding yourself was important also back then, but it was easier for the yet-to-be-branded newbie:

He or she could, without too much difficulty, start out marketing their biz opp on Adwords with their upline or their successful team leader as the “face” of their MLM, sharing their success story (as they naturally didn’t have their own yet).

But as Google decided to rid themselves of home business owners and affiliate marketers, and also, as the market has only continued to become more and more saturated, that strategy, of course, is long dead in the waters.

Today, it’s social media that rules the day, and one thing you can be certain of is that trying to lead with a product or an opportunity on a place like say, Facebook isn’t gonna do it.

Social media is…drum roll please…social, and being social means being personal. Simply put, on social media, what works are people and their stories. Yes, even in ads. That’s what attracts clicks.

Which again means personal branding is more important than ever.

Please understand that it’s not that you can’t start marketing until you’ve branded yourself or until you have your own product…that’s not at all what I’m saying. You need to get started now!

But it’s important to read the times and to see the bigger picture…see what it really takes to set yourself up for massive success and build your business for longevity. Building your own brand rather than your company’s brand, which is the only way you’ll survive in this industry.

You’ve got to find a way to set yourself apart. If you can keep this in the forefront of your mind and let it color the decisons you make about your marketing, you’ll get it right from the outset.

Then, you won’t have to go back and re-do your funnel because it’s too “replicated”.

Then, you won’t have to create a second blog because you chose WordPress.com rather than WordPress.org and now – as the leader of a quickly growing team – you’re suddenly realizing that .org is the only option that allows for enough self branding.

You with me?

You’ve got to take action even though everything you’ve got right now is imperfect…BUT you must build on the RIGHT foundation.

Having your own product (or at least making it part of your plan to get one created in the very near future) is an important part of this. So is having a WordPress.org blog.

So is making your Facebook fan page about “you, the Leader” rather than about your MLM company. So is setting up your sales funnel in MLSP – which allows for self-branding – rather than using a replicated “MLM company funnel”.

With these 4 corner stones (blog, funnel, product and Facebook page) you’re laying the right foundation.

Just as it takes time to build a house, it takes time to build a business. But as you work on it, it will start looking more and more the way you want it.

If your business is built on the wrong foundation, however, it won’t last. You’ll find yourself having to tear it down and rebuild it on an entirely new foundation.

And that, of course, is exasperating.

That’s really my point here – that you have an understanding of what’s required to build for longevity. Then, take small consistent steps day in and day out to grow your business into what you want it to be.

So…to answer the question, “Isn’t my company enough?”… Your MLM company or opportunity should be looked at merely as a vehicle – it gets you going. Your MLM company provides you with a system, a product line, training and support so that you can start earning money.

But over time your MLM company should become less and less important. To stay with the vehicle analogy, you’ve got to get in the driver’s seat of your business. And the sooner you can take over the wheel, the better.

Best of “luck”, my friend!

Well, what do you think – do you have to be attractive to succeed with Attraction Marketing?

I’m not talking about looks here (haha), so no worries. I’m talking about having an attractive personality – that’s the type of attractiveness I referring to. And, indeed, the answer to my question is a big, loud resounding “yes”.

People relate to other people, not to product lines, companies or opportunities. Which is why, as a network marketer, you need to be personal in your approach.

Meaning…? Meaning you have a personal blog, a personalized sales funnel, a social media presence, and content like articles and videos published in your name…for starters.

Everything you do should be approached from a problem-solution perspective: Your prospect has a problem and you are there to help them solve it.

This obviously becomes easier over time as you acquire more and more knowledge. This newfound knowledge will also help you build confidence which makes it easier to function in the role as a leader.

Because that’s really what you are doing…you’re being a leader. You are guiding, teaching and serving – an important part of what leaders do.

Everyone’s looking for a leader to follow – that includes your prospects.

If they don’t follow you, your prospect will follow someone else (which you don’t want, obviously). So make sure you put on your leader hat and continue to raise the bar on yourself in that area.

Also, keep in mind that we tend to attract people that are “just like us” so if you want to bring the right people – quality people – into your MLM business, you’ve got to strive to be that person you’d like to sponsor.

This is where attractiveness enters the picture.

And what are some characteristics of an attractive person, some may ask? Okay, let’s run through a few…

You have amazing work ethics, you’re generous, giving, confident, strong, forward-thinking, productive, efficient, driven, self-disciplined, self-motivated, at peace with yourself and your circumstances, you’re an overcomer and an optimist…

You’re not afraid to speak up, you’re action oriented, you take educated risks, you strive to be the best that you can be at what you do, you seek to inspire and encourage others…

Quite a list, eh? And I’ve really only touched the tip of the iceberg here.

Personal growth – or growing an attractive personality, as I like to call it – is obviously a lifelong pursuit. But it is a worthy pursuit and one that we all need to commit to.(And sometimes re-commit to when we slack off!)

Personal development is a big deal in the MLM/home business industry, and that’s for good reason.

There is simply no way you’ll survive the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, stay the course and – which is what I’ve been focusing on in this particular post – attract prospects into your business if you don’t possess attractive personality traits.

On the flipside, when your prospects truly come to see you as that person they themselves would love to be like (and this really is the key here…you are their role model!) – someone who’s self-assured, successful, accomplished, yet relatable and personal in their approach – how can they not want to come sit at your feet to learn from you?

Who wouldn’t be attracted to this type of person, right?

By becoming the leader your prospects are looking for, you will rise above your competition – all the people who don’t think outside the box and who are hiding behind replicated MLM company sites and impersonal systems.

By putting a “face” on your business this way, you’ll be light-years ahead of your competitors from the outset.

Your prospect will know exactly who they’re dealing with. Your transparency will shine through and you’ll build trust and credibility quickly and effortlessly. Which, of course, is essential to getting your prospects to buy from you as people buy from those that they know, like and trust.

In a world flooded with offers and opportunities, you will be the obvious choice.

You will be the obvious choice because you’re so darn awesome.

That, my friend, is what Attraction Marketing is all about.

Many people who use Attraction Marketing in their businesses mistakenly believe that all they have to do is give value, and the money will come. Well, it starts with giving value but that’s not all there is to it.

Giving value will help you attract followers. But, the entire purpose of attracting those people is to give you an opportunity to sell to them! Right?

You only make money when you do one single thing – namely take an order. Which means that at least 80% of your time should be spent on calls with people, taking orders.

Or – the other option, and the one that I personally prefer – it should be spent working on ways to get the order-taking to happen on your website, on autopilot.

Whether you find option A or B to be the most effective will depend on the nature of your products. It also depends on how you prefer to work your business and on whether you are just starting out or you’ve been marketing for a while.

Expect to have to make more phone calls in the beginning. (You still should have some sort of qualification process that your prospects have to go through before they get to talk to you and not just call leads blindly.)

Your auto responder emails should be doing the same – they should be giving value, but you should also be asking for the sale. If not in every single message, certainly in the vast majority of them.

People WANT to be led. And part of leading is telling them what to do next: apply, purchase the start up kit, take a test drive or whatever the case may be.

This is also why you must always give your prospect a clear, concise step of action, something specific to do next. And don’t give them several options – this will only confuse them and they will choose none. No, give them only ONE option.

Another thing: Never let your prospects drill you about your business. Remember, in any conversation it is the person who asks the questions who holds the power, and you want to make sure that you maintain posture and stay in control, not your prospect!

So, then, how do your prospects get their questions answered if you don’t take it upon yourself to get on the phone and deal with them?

Well, your sales funnel should be doing the work for you, taking care of as much of the selling and telling as possible: Your websites, emails, videos, tutorials and so on should be doing this on your behalf, all while sorting and filtering your prospects for you.

If your company doesn’t have a call center with trained people who answer questions from interested prospects, consider hiring a part-time freelancer from Odesk (quite inexpensive) that you can train to answer phone calls and call leads back.

It should be well worth the investment: You’ll gain so much posture in the eyes of your prospects this way. How can they not see you as a successful leader if you’ve got your very own personal assistant?

Also, with this strategy, never again will you be left tongue-tied trying to answer a question you don’t know the answer to.

But at the same time your prospects will have a number they can call if they have questions about getting started. You’re not shutting yourself off from them, you’re making yourself accessible, it’s just that you’re making use of hired help – which, I may add, all successful, productive people do.

Have this phone number easily visible on all websites, on your YouTube channel, in your auto responders etc. I recommend you also include the Skype or other messenger ID for your “assistant” in all your correspondence.

Even if you don’t start getting a lot of calls from leads, it helps build trust with the person who’s following you when they see that there’s a number they can call if they need help.

Follow these tips so as to keep an authorative role with your prospects while at the same time staying approachable, and I’m convinced you’ll soon see those leads convert to sales!
